The Slippery Pig, Poulsbo, WA, will be hosting a celebration of Steve’s life on May 19th, 2022 from 5 pm to 7 pm. It gave him great joy to be a part of his grandson's (Mateo), life from the very beginning. His hobbies included photography, brewing beer, genealogy, "Beer Church" historian, cooking, poetry, reading, live music, and watching local sports (Seahawks, Mariners, and Kracken) live and on TV. Preventing Veteran suicide, as well as ensuring they got the help that they deserve was part of Steve's retirement plan. Steve's passions were his family in Pennsylvania and in Washington, good food, a well-crafted beer, and supporting local businesses and farms. He encouraged the pursuit of their dreams no matter how unorthodox. He often photographed and filmed these activities. It gave Steve great joy to watch his children's theater productions, band & orchestra performances, wrestling matches, and football games. He also has five grandchildren, Mateo, Victoria, Leonardo, Camila, and Alexander, and was looking forward to meeting two more in the fall.Īlong with his wife, children, and mother, he is survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Denise & Ed Zernell of Weedville, PA three brothers and their wives: Tim & Alice Kugler of Lodi, CA, Jon & Cheryl Kugler of Carlisle, PA, and Joe Kugler of Kersey and many nieces and nephews. Steve retired honorably after serving in the Navy for 20 years.Īfter retirement, Steve worked on the quality assurance team for LabCorp throughout the Pacific Northwest. He later served at the Marine Corps Winter Warfare Training Center in Bridgeport, CA, and Bangor, WA. After attending boot camp at Great Lakes Naval Station, IL, as a Hospital Corpsman Steve spent many tours at Bethesda Naval Hospital and on the medical staff at the U.S. He worked at Automatic Turning and Machining in Kersey prior to enlisting in the U.S. Steve graduated in 1975 from Elk County Christian High School, attended Gannon College in Erie, PA, attended suicide prevention training, and was working towards a degree in psychiatry at American Public University at the time of his death. He was born on July 8, 1957, in Ridgway, PA eldest son of 5 children to Marinus J. His wife, Tina Wright, was at his bedside. He pursued blacksmithing, from his youth as a hobby and presented demos paired with “telling lies” atparks and festivals for many years. He also worked with Otto Cupler Torpedo Company in Titusville. As a licensed blaster and great lover of fireworks, he worked for 34 years with Fire Art Corporation in Clearfield as a “shooter” for shows and more recently Kellner’s in Harrisville. Prior to teaching, he worked at Quaker State Refinery in Emlenton, Pangborn Abrasives in Butler, and Electralloy in Oil City.
